About CFD-Lab

The steady improvement in the speed of computers and the memory size since the 1950s has led to the emergence of computational fluid dynamics (CFD), which is now the preferred means of testing alternative designs in many branches of the aircraft, flow machinery and automobile industry. It has many important applications in many important areas such as reactive flow simulations, oceangraphy science and atmospheric science, etc.

The main purpose of establishing this CFD Laboratory is to put together some state-of-arts numerical methods and to illustrate how to implement them for some well known benchmark problems. There has been an enormous growth in the algorithm development in the past two decades, including spectral methods, WENO scheme, Discontinuous Galerkin method, BGK type methods, Central scheme, Level set method and various adaptive strategies. Our first goal is to make standard algorithms for these high-resolution methods available online. A set of benchmark problems will be selected and will be tested by using these efficient CFD methods.

This project will be a long-term program, and is supported by the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Peking University, Beijing Institute of Applied Physics and Computational Mathematics, Hong Kong Baptist University and University of Science and Technology of China.
